“In the Long-term plan for research and higher education we made a commitment to step up efforts to increase the number of Norwegian scientific groups in the international forefront, and we have followed up on this goal. An important part of these efforts has been to ensure that our top researchers and students have access to world-class infrastructure,” says Minister of Research and Higher Education, Iselin Nybø.
In the coming years it will be necessary to upgrade and further develop infrastructures with a proven track record, and there is still a widespread need to implement new projects. The area strategies in the roadmap describe what is needed within the different disciplines and thematic and technology areas. The research community has provided important input in the development of the area strategies.
The national strategy gives recommendations to the ministries, research institutions and the Research Council on how these needs can be met.

Two areas that stand out and that extend across multiple area strategies are digitalisation and data management.
