The Value of Unique Scholarly Identifiers to Academics, Institutions and Countries

14 février 2012 – Vilnius, Lithuanie

The purpose of the Conference: to acquaint the academic community with an array of projects implemented around the world with the aim to introduce work of researchers to the wide scientific community, as well as discuss relevance and importance of such initiatives.

The relevance of the Conference: digital technologies and Internet have irreversibly replaced methods of communication formerly used by the academic community. Today, use of interactive methods to publish, discuss and assess information on scientific research and results as well as other work undertaken by an active researcher has become the norm. Now, this information is an inseparable part of assessment and rating of individual researchers and institutions. Because of infinite numbers of users, distinction between communicating parties and identification of their varied activities became especially complex. Centralised systems have been made available to researchers to independently compile an integral overview of their work from numerous pieces published over the years of their research activity. All of the projects related to identifiers aim to fairly rate the work of a researcher, an institution or even a country.
