Where Art and Science Meet – The Art In the Science & The Science In the Art of Digital Preservation – will be co-hosted by MIT Libraries and Harvard Library on September 24-27, 2018. Help us celebrate the first 15 Years of iPRES, the premier international conference on the preservation and long-term management of digital materials.

The conference series intends to draw in a broad array of practitioners and researchers to share what people have learned about mediating risks to digital preservation. In addition to paper presentations that focus on novel applications and experiences from the field, the conference offers rapid-fire poster presentations, hands-on workshops, and insightful tutorials on putting digital preservation theories into practice.

This preliminary call for contributions seeks abstracts for papers that tell stories about bridging knowledge gaps in teams, implementing technologies, and overcoming barriers towards proper digital stewarding of digital items, assets, works and collections. Be creative. Be inspiring. Be inclusive. The theme of the call – where art and science meet – aims to broaden the variety of voices and approaches that fall under the nomenclature of digital preservation. In keeping with the theme, the program committee will embrace creative proposals that demonstrate how research and theory directly impact and influence practice at all levels.

Important Dates

– Paper abstracts due February 15, 2018
– Detailed submission information and instructions will be available in January 2018
– Accepted abstracts will be invited to submit papers by March 15
– Final papers for accepted abstracts will be due May 15
– All other submissions due in April 2018
